Xbox Live Arcade on Windows 7 Phones?

16 07 2010

In a recent announcement by Microsoft, the company has been working with Xbox Live Arcade game programmers to get the same arcade games to Windows 7 phones, none of which, might I add, have been seen or even announced. Either way, the arcade integration will definitely be a key selling point for their jockeying of position on the smart-phone market, where they don’t really have any ground right now.

Xbox Live Arcade on Windows 7 Phones?

In a recent announcement by Microsoft, the company has been working with Xbox Live Arcade game programmers to get the same arcade games to Windows 7 phones, none of which, might I add, have been seen or even announced. Either way, the arcade integration will definitely be a key selling point for their jockeying of position on the smart-phone market, where they don’t really have any ground right now.

Oded Ran, Microsoft’s consumer marketing head, had this to say about it:

“There are four million Xboxes in the UK compared to 2.5 million iPhones; we’re now working with developers who know how to make games, and they’re able to port Xbox Arcade games to mobile phones easily.”

Great PC FPS Games Not Named “Modern Warfare”

11 06 2010

Forget all that Modern Warfare jazz. The game is exciting and exhilarating visually, but the game itself is not all that great. The story mode is too short, the servers are set to no more than 16 people, and the auto-sorting for the game’s online multi-player feature leaves much to be improved for the Black Ops installation launching towards the end of this year in November. But who feels like waiting to see if Infinity Ward can clean up that mess? Not you. You need a great FPS experience to play now. You want action. You want team work. You want headshots! Who doesn’t love headshots?! But wait, wait…luckily for you all, I am here. And here is a little gaming list I composed of must-play FPS games that can make you forget about that last horrible installation into the Call of Duty series.

  • 1. Battlefield Bad Company 2

Action-packed game play? Check. More interactive, destructive, and eloquent environments than Modern Warfare 2? Check. 16 v 16 matches? Check. That’s three ways right there that this game tops Modern Warfare 2. This game is well worth the $50 price tag. They both have vehicles, but the realism in the environments and physics in BC2 is just spot on. How many other games have realistic snowy, hail-type weather where a breeze of snow will obscure your vision mid-snipe? It ain’t Modern Warfare. It may be another game but it won’t be as good as this one is in other aspects; better weapons and better online game play. Point is, this is the best realistic, FPS for your money now. Buy it. NOW.

  • 2. Team Fortress 2

Maybe you’re not into all the realistic environments, and you’re more into cell-shaded, vibrant, simple-looking games. Team Fortress 2 is all that and more than meets the eye. The “Team” in Team Fortress is there for a reason. This team based game is really based on how well you, and your teammates work together to beat the other team. Like Bad Company 2, it has classes, but the classes in this game are much unique in talent, weaponry, and technique that it’s not as simple as it seems. You gain various new weapons and achievements throughout this game as well to find an arsenal of items that suit your character, team, and map best. Because of class diversities, this is much more of a strategic game than Modern Warfare 2., so it also gets the nod.

  • 3.  Counterstrike: Source

Granted this is a much older game than MW2 and BC2, this game still has a lot to offer. High amount of online players, a cult following, very realistic and classic weapons like the M4A1 and the AK47, this game is just a solid all-around shooter. People are still going pro at this game today, so it has gotta be good, right? Much preferring the top two games  for their uniqueness, you can still have a hell of a time playing this  game. Decent sized maps, multiple servers, and you can get it for less than $10? This is a classic game you should kick yourself for passing up.

There are a ton more games out there that would knock the pants off of Modern Warfare 2, but these are the best 3 that stood out to me.
