Microsoft Posts Record Q4, and Apple Still Provides A Scare

22 07 2010

With the releases of the iPad, iPhone 4, iOS4, and the steady sales of Macs, many analysts believed Apple would top Microsoft’s sales in Q4 of the fiscal year. And they nearly did, as Apple made $15.7 billion in revenue. But Microsoft pulled a rabbit out of their hat, and just edged Apple’s revenue income by breaking a quarter’s revenue income record. Microsoft made $16.04 billion in revenue Q4. Their overall increase from the 2009 fiscal year was 7% with $62.48 billion for the year.

Windows 7, their latest OS, has sold 175 million copies to date, and Bing continues to steadily rise its market share. Even still, many people still expect for Apple to finally make a jump over  Microsoft’s revenue intake next quarter, considering the iPhone 4 and iPad 4 have just been released over the past few months. Sales are expected to increase on both devices.

The only real ace up Microsoft’s sleeve is Windows 7 Mobile and the phone(s) they said are debuting in August this year. Depending on how well those devices do could decide whether Apple becomes the most valuable tech company next quarter. Without any success there, Apple is predicted again, with a better chance this time, to take the lead from Microsoft.
