Capcom and Namco to Release Street Fighter vs Tekken Games

27 07 2010

At this year’s Comic-Con, attendees for the Capcom Street Fighter 4 booth got a nice little surprise. Capcom was there to début a new game for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

In a new match-up of the Series Vs. Series style fighting game genre, pitting two different companies’ groups of fighting characters against one another, Capcom’s Street Fighter characters will take on Namco’s Tekken characters. This is the first time the two franchises have been featured in a versus game against one another. This is the first time Tekken has been featured, while Capcom and its Street Fighter team is no stranger to the Vs. Match-Up genre.

Another way this game will be a pioneer is because there are actually two games. Both Capcom and Namco will manufacture a version of it. Both companies will take different approaches to their games. The Capcom version, Street Fighter X Tekken, will feature more a traditional Street Fighter style of play, while Namco’s version, Tekken X STreet Fighter will feel more like a Tekken game.

Street Fighter X Tekken will launch on the PS3 and Xbox 360. No release date was given either. The Capcom Comic-Con address said it would not be released for a while though.

It doesn’t matter though. How psyched are all of you for these games and this mash-up?

Netflix on PS3 Goes Disc-less In October

23 07 2010

Right now, PS3 owners have to use discs to access Netflix’s video streaming services, unlike Xbox 360 owners.

CEO Reed Hastings brings good news to PS3 owners though, announcing a new version of their PS3 UI that will not need discs to work, and will continually get UI updates afterward to keep it up sometime in October.

Netflix and Hulu will probably become even stronger competitors in the future he said,  so they’re going to see why people will like HuluPlus, if they do.

It makes sense though, as many people  are trying to ditch cable and satellite subscriptions in favor to online streaming and downloading of content for a much cheaper price. With more and more shifting to à la carte styles of television and video watching, Hulu and Netflix are two major competitors already. Redbox is working on moving their content to digital, and I’m sure Apple, Microsoft and Google will try to make moves in the digital content field of play too.

Japan Getting New PS3s: White 160GB and 320GB

7 07 2010

The exclusive release of some new versions of the PS3 console is due to hit Japan July 29th. The new versions include a new all-white body, available in 160GB and 320GB editions.

The 160GB will cost them $341, while the 320GB will only be $398. Those are two tantalizing prices that  would appeal to many American and other consumers around the world. Unfortunately though, the release is an exclusive. And there are no plans to bring the new editions of the PS3 to the States, or anywhere else for that matter, unless they generate a high demand. So, if you really want to get your hands on one here in the U.S., you should give Sony a call–a few hundred times.
