Google’s Nexus One Getting Very Last Shipment

16 07 2010

Sad news in the phone market today. The ever-popular Google Nexus One has just had its last shipment sent to Google, and that will be it for the Nexus line-up. Earlier this year, Google stated it would not be creating a Nexus Two or any sequel to the Nexus One. This is still one of the most powerful and best overall Android phones made and I regret never buying one.

Apple Press Conference: It’s Not That Bad, Free Cases Until Sept. 30th

16 07 2010

At the much-anticipated conference held by Apple this morning, Apple addressed their iPhone 4 and the media around it. Jobs clearly showed that he was not going to enjoy the task at hand, nor did he. Attendees could see it in his face as he was coming to terms with a current PR nightmare/ business success.

Jobs described how the “Death Grip” issue that had drawn the most hype from the phone is an issue other phones have had as well. And while I can attest to this, a lot of the reason that the iPhone 4 has received so much flack for it are because it’s Apple, not  some junk company. They’re held to a higher standard of innovative technology. The large amount of iPhone 4 owners who have experienced the “Death Grip” cut bars on their phone have been boisterous about it as well. (But again, I think it has a lot to do with it coming from Apple).

Not as many people as everyone thinks had issues with their iPhone 4 Jobs informed the conference attendees. Based on statistics, only .55%, less than 1%, of iPhone 4 customers  had called Apple Care up until that point about having issues with their iPhone 4 and the infamous “Death Grip”, and only 4% of iPhone 4 purchases have ended up returning theirs for their money back, as supposed to 6% of 3G S owners up until that same point. Some actually mind-boggling numbers for as much anti-sentiment it has been received since launch a few weeks back.

At no time did Jobs actually apologize for the iPhone 4 antenna problem, but he did repeatedly mention how much Apple and he care about their customers. It was after this that he finally revealed his and Apple’s plan for the antenna issue. Free cases for all owners and future owners, which many had predicted already; at least until September 30th. This is obviously a cheaper option than a recall, something which it would hard for Apple to come back from in the future. Also, iPhone 4 owners can return their iPhone 4s within 30 days of purchasing it and have the restocking fee waived. After September 30th, Apple will update the public on whether they will continue the “free case” program, or whether they have come up with some better alternative. (Hopefully it’s something better than a software update  for a hardware issue.)

For those who own an iPhone 4 already and future purchasers, and wish to get a free case, sign-ups will begin next week on Apple’s website. For those who have already have purchased cases, Apple will also offer a full reimbursement with the sign-ups next week. Apple will try to manufacture as many cases they can, but applicants also have the option of picking a third-party case for free instead in the probably event they can’t.

While Apple did not offer an idea about what they believe the problem is that causes the drop of signal, they are working on it, or so we think. Hopefully they come up with something better than a free case. Maybe an actual fix.

Xbox Live Arcade on Windows 7 Phones?

16 07 2010

In a recent announcement by Microsoft, the company has been working with Xbox Live Arcade game programmers to get the same arcade games to Windows 7 phones, none of which, might I add, have been seen or even announced. Either way, the arcade integration will definitely be a key selling point for their jockeying of position on the smart-phone market, where they don’t really have any ground right now.
