Facebook For Android Gets A Great Update

4 08 2010

Just downloaded the update to the Facebook App  for Android update 1.3.0, and I must say, it got some major improvements.

The home screen’s interface got a face lift, where you can clearly see a messages and search button up top. All the quick reference buttons like friend requests, news feed, profile, etc.  are smaller but still look better than before than being that dull 6-block layout, and they left room for possibly two-more buttons to be added in the future. Beneath that, you can see pictures of recent posts by your friends, so when Adidas launches new shoes, for example, I can see them easier and quicker than before than having to scroll all the way through the news feeds. Clicking it takes you right to the post as well, which is also cool. Finally, they added a notifications bar at the bottom, where if you touch it, it rises up and displays all your recent notifications in a clear, detailed way.

All-in-all, the home screen fixing did it for me. The update is a must for all Facebook app users on Android.

Dragon Dictation Gets Updated

23 07 2010

The Nuance app Dragon Dictation for the iPhone just received an update to Version 2.0. A voice recognition program powered by Dragon NaturallySpeaking allows users to speak their text messages and e-mails right into their iPhones. It’s known for its accuracy and speed.

The update includes multilingual support, being able to paste text directly to iPhone SMS clients, and the ability to send text to Social Networking apps Twitter and Facebook. So you can now speak your status updates. Nice, I guess.

Get it.

12 07 2010

If you’re a fun of The Onion’s website or newspaper, and own an Android phone, this is great news. The Onion is now available as a fully featured app on the Android Marketplace.

And it’s free.

They released a blog post, saying:

“The Onion News Network Android App

See the latest videos, sort by show, access popular segments, editors picks and search ONN’s vast archives.

The Onion News Network is the highest rated 24-hour news network on the globe, reaching 811 countries in 152 languages.”

As short, and simple as it is, it’s also as cool to have it on my phone now.

Let the Android fans rejoice!

Sportscenter and ESPN Radio Apps Now Available On Android

11 07 2010

Just a few weeks ago, Sportscenter finally made its way to the Android market. The free allows users to track their favorite team’s or teams’ scores, games, statistics and all that good stuff. To follow-up on that, they just released  an ESPN Radio. For $4.99, users get live radio streams, updates, and podcasts. A scrolling score ticker appears on the bottom of the app to give you live sports updates just like the sports ticker does on ESPN TV. If you really need your daily dose of Mike and Mike in the Morning, or the Scott Van Pelt show, this app is tailor-made for you.(via BGR)

Fring: Free Video Calls on 3G With iPhones

9 07 2010

Making its way to the iTunes store is an app I’m sure all iPhone users will appreciate. If you currently don’t have an iPhone 4, then you weren’t making video calls on your iPhone. Even if you did, you could only call Apple or someone else with one. The new app Fring gives you free 2 way video calls to friends on any mobile phone(Android included) over 3G and WiFi. The app one-ups itself by being able to run in the background while working or viewing something else on your iPhone 4 as well.

But while all this sounds great, it’s just as bad when you touch the lower left-hand side of the device. Other than that, it’s great!

Download it here.
