Motorola Working on 2GHz Smart Phone, Launch By End of Year

11 06 2010

It was recently announced by Sanjay Jha, Co-CEO of Motorola, at the Executives Club of Chicago that Motorola was in the works on a new Android-powered smart phone with a 2GHz processor. Not only that, but they want to get out by the end of this year to sell. There wasn’t much said about what manufacturer would produce the processor, but it’s rumored to come from Qualcomm. The same company producing the top 1GHz processors in smart phones today.

Sidenote, recently, Qualcomm stated that they are in the works of creating a dual-core processor for smart phones that will clock 1.2Ghz

They’re trying to cram every single smart phone feature they can into the device to make it even better and popular for businesses to use. One major feature they will be adding is video chat/conferencing, a feature that was first-introduced to the phone market via the HTC Evo4 on the Sprint network. They hope to start adding a gyroscope and a Nvidia graphics to them as well, to make phones seem even more a comfortable substitute.

Did the iPhone 4 just get a little less intriguing?

Jha described how, in years to come, more and more companies and big businesses will be wanting to switch to high-end, business smart phones instead of giving every employee a laptop or netbook when they do now.  Jha wasn’t done with announcements there though. Not only were they planning on releasing video chat capable phones, but more of the “Droid-brand” phones would and will be coming through to Verizon.

And you thought I was kidding when I said Android is the mobile OS to beat today. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.

For Phones, Are Google And Apple The Future?

7 06 2010

As much reading as I’ve done the past several months about technology, phones particularly, I’ve come to notice two things. Either A, every new phone itself or phone hype is surrounding an Android device; phone, tablet, or soon to be OS. And B, iPhone, iPad and iTunes is getting a new add-on, application, or an update while being compared to all other brands and facets of technology in or near the same field of type. So with all the attention directed to Google and Apple, where does this leave all the other Operating Systems?

Windows Mobile phones have never really received major fanfare among consumers. Windows Mobile OSs, much like their computer, desktop brethren, have been known to glitch and never offer a uniquely enjoyable mobile experience. At least for its sake though it could be modified the easiest and also allowed for the easiest apps to made for it because it was Windows. Palm, to me, was actually pretty enjoyable. And it still is, but not to the masses apparently. The threaded text messaging always made it my favorite before the Android release because not too many other phones had it at the time. And while I’ve never owned a Blackberry, the buzz for them in general and personal intrigued have pretty much died down . The Blackberry was considered the élite smart phone; the businessman’s phone. But ever since the iPhone and Android-powered phones releases, there has been a decrease in the opinion that it still retains that status, if not  a dismal unanimity.

With the upcoming release of the iPhone 4, and all the other half a dozen or so new Androids coming out soon, it’ll be interesting to see what other mobile OSs can do to keep up. With Hewlett-Packerd’s recent acquisition of Palm, and the début of Windows 7 slate for phones coming out hopefully within by the end of this year, let’s hope they can make things interesting for us all. Mainly the  consumers.

Android Hopefully Getting Playstation Emulator, Rejoice!

4 06 2010

I’m a big emulation fan personally. My Samsung Moment, and all my other smartphones I’ve ever had were subject to emulation purposes when I wasn’t talking, texting, or blogging on them. The ability to duplicate classic gaming experiences is hard, but very worth-while project to developers. So I was more than ecstatic when I read the news on TechCrunch.com that ZotDD, This Guy, and ShaDenSu, developer and creator of the Android “Boid” emulators were collaborating on the effort. Granted, this will need a very strong processor to run on when released, like the Snapdragon or A8, which ranges from 600MHz-1000MHz, this won’t be available to everyone, at least, in a decent frame rate. Hopefully my Samsung’s ARM11 processor, which runs at 800MHz, can handle that. I’d be very upset if it couldn’t. The Playstation gaming experience is one of kind, especially for the PSX and PS1. There’s no due date expected until it’s just done, but at least it’s in the works. Praise to these gents. I’ll be posting up new information on this as I get it.

Enjoy!
